HOUSE FOUNDATIONS
This class introduces the essential techniques and footwork born from the underground club scenes of Chicago and New York. Learn the core grooves, fundamental steps, and musicality needed to freestyle and connect with the music on a deeper level

HOUSE DRILLS, FLOORWORK & FREESTYLE
Come learn variations and patterns with foundational NYC house steps. We will use repetition to allow these patterns to become second nature in order to freestyle with them. Playing with patterns and repetition can inspire your own ways to freestyle with the steps and create your unique voice in this dance culture.

ABOUT AMY O'NEAL
Long time Seattle artist, Amy O’Neal, grew up dancing hip hop party dances with her friends on the playground, at birthday parties, and for the first time in a club in 1991. She also trained in ballet, contemporary, studio jazz, and has a BFA in dance from Cornish College of the Arts. As a professional choreographer she has merged the social and conceptual natures of contemporary and street dance in her work since 2000. She has toured her dance shows nationally and internationally received funding from local and nationally competitive organizations like National Dance Project, National Performance Network, Creative Capital, 4 Culture, and Artist Trust to name a few. She met members of Circle of Fire in 2006 and started getting in the circles with them at Seattle night clubs War Room, Lo Fi, Re Bar, and Monkey Loft. Here she was introduced to house dance. She started training in house with Sekou Heru of Dance Fusion in NYC in 2011 and co founded the first house dance classes in Seattle with dani tirrell at The Beacon Massive Monkees Studio in 2014. Amy taught for the Dance This program and Velocity Dance Center for 15 years before moving to LA and serving on faculty at The University of Southern California Glorya Kaufman’s School of Dance. She has returned to Seattle and is the founder of Hybrid Dance Lab, a research, development, and performance platform for experimental street dance artists to create for the theater.
